Datalogic CODiScan Wearable Scanner

The CODiScan HS7600 Series combines barcode capture with a wearable design for tasks that alternate between scanning and handling products. A paired mobile computer or workstation receives the captured data and runs the operational application.

Its main advantage is removing the repeated movement of picking up and setting down a scanner. This is particularly useful when operators need both hands to lift cartons, pick components or pack orders.

  • Warehousing and logistics: picking, packing, sorting, put-away, shipping and receiving.
  • Retail: click-and-collect fulfilment, replenishment and stockroom inventory.
  • Manufacturing: component identification, assembly traceability and finished-goods verification.

Smart Aiming and Scan Confirmation

Datalogic’s smart aiming system helps operators target the intended barcode before triggering a read. CODiScan supports standard 1D barcodes and common 2D formats, including Data Matrix, QR Code and PDF417; achievable reading distance depends on the model and barcode.

Green Spot projects successful-read confirmation onto the scanned item. Three LEDs—two lateral blades and one rear spot—provide additional visibility, while audible alerts and optional vibration feedback support different working environments. Device indicators also communicate battery and Bluetooth status.

A successful-read signal confirms barcode capture. Validation against an order, stock record or production instruction remains the responsibility of the connected application.

When Wearable Scanning Fits the Workflow

CODiScan is most useful when frequent scans interrupt tasks that require both hands. Assess trigger access, glove fit and label position using the operator’s actual handling movements.

For occasional scanning or work shared between several nearby stations, compare handheld barcode scanners. A conventional scanner may suit the task without requiring each operator to wear a hand-trigger accessory.

CODiScan Models and Reading Distances

Choose the scan engine according to barcode detail and working distance. Standard Range and Mid Range are alternatives within the same wearable platform; greater reach can come with a longer minimum reading distance.

CODiScan model selection
Model Configuration Selection priority
HS7600SR Standard Range Product, carton and stock labels scanned at close-to-medium distances.
HS7600MR Mid Range Additional reach where label positions and working distances vary.
HS7600RT Short Range High Density Small barcode elements that require close-range reading.

For an equivalent 5 mil Code 128 barcode, Datalogic lists a reading range of 10–30 cm for Standard Range and 21–52 cm for Mid Range. For a 10 mil Data Matrix code, the corresponding ranges are 10–28 cm and 20–45 cm.

A mil is one thousandth of an inch and describes the smallest bar or module in these examples. These are barcode-specific reference ranges; label quality, symbol dimensions, angle and lighting affect performance. Test representative labels at both the nearest and furthest required positions.

Hand Triggers and Carrying Accessories

The scanner body measures 53 × 44 × 19 mm and weighs 44 g; wearing accessories add to the complete setup. The scanner-only model listings require a hand trigger or lanyard to be purchased separately.

Adjustable left-hand and right-hand triggers support frequent scanning and can be fitted over a working glove. Their electronics separate from the washable fabric, allowing the fabric to be cleaned or replaced independently.

The extensible lanyard provides neck, belt or pocket carrying options. In this portable configuration, scanning uses the device’s multifunction key; carrying the scanner on a lanyard does not provide the same hands-free operation as the hand trigger.

Battery Life and Charging Requirements

CODiScan uses a rechargeable 640 mAh lithium-polymer battery. Datalogic rates operation at up to 16 hours at one scan every five seconds, with up to 12,000 scans per charge depending on settings and environmental conditions. Compare this rating with the expected scan volume and shift pattern.

The technical specification lists approximately 2.15 hours to recharge with a Datalogic charging station. Options include a single-slot charger, modular two-slot chargers expandable to six slots, and a 12-slot station. Include the required power supplies and regional power cords in the configuration.

Bluetooth, Aladdin and Gateway Connect

CODiScan supports Bluetooth Classic and Bluetooth Low Energy 5.2. Datalogic’s Aladdin Android app assists with pairing, scanner settings and firmware updates. The Datalogic Memor 11 is a manufacturer-recommended pairing device; confirm the host software and application requirements for the proposed deployment.

For fixed workstations, the separately purchased Gateway Connect supports up to seven CODiScan devices and connects to a computer through USB. Its Wi-Fi connectivity belongs to the gateway, rather than the wearable scanner, and requires the appropriate network and application configuration.

A Bluetooth connection alone does not establish compatibility with a warehouse management system (WMS) or enterprise resource planning (ERP) platform. Confirm how the application accepts barcode data, identifies operators and handles rejected or duplicate scans.

Illustrative Packing Workflow

An operator scans an item using the hand trigger, and CODiScan transmits the barcode to the host application. Green Spot confirms the read; the packing application then checks the item against the order and displays acceptance or a mismatch. Validate both responses during setup, including what happens if the host connection is interrupted.

Operating Limits

The scanner has an IP54 rating for dust and splash protection and is specified to withstand repeated 1.8 m drops onto concrete. Its operating temperature range is −20 to +50 °C, while charging requires 0 to +40 °C.

IP54 does not cover immersion or high-pressure washdown. Cold-storage deployments also need a suitable charging area and an assessment of condensation and battery performance. For codes marked directly into components, assess the surface and marking method before selecting an engine; small printed-code capability alone does not establish direct-part-marking suitability.

Datalogic CODiScan FAQs

When is Datalogic CODiScan a better choice than a handheld barcode scanner?

CODiScan suits picking, packing, replenishment and component handling where frequent scans interrupt work requiring both hands. With the hand-trigger accessory, operators can scan without repeatedly picking up and setting down a reader. For occasional scanning or equipment shared between workstations, compare handheld barcode scanners. Assess the complete handling sequence, including label access and trigger position, before choosing.

What is the difference between CODiScan HS7600SR, HS7600MR and HS7600RT?

HS7600SR provides Standard Range optics, HS7600MR provides Mid Range optics for additional reach, and HS7600RT is the Short Range High Density model for fine barcode detail at close distances. Choose according to the smallest barcode elements and actual scanning positions. Mid Range can require a greater minimum distance, so it may be less convenient for labels held close to the hand.

How far can CODiScan read a barcode?

Reading distance depends on the model, barcode format and size of its smallest bars or modules. For a 5 mil Code 128 barcode, Datalogic lists 10–30 cm for Standard Range and 21–52 cm for Mid Range. A mil is one thousandth of an inch. These are reference ranges; test actual labels at the nearest and furthest positions, including representative lighting, angles and print quality.

Can CODiScan read QR codes, Data Matrix and codes marked directly onto parts?

CODiScan supports common 1D and 2D formats, including QR Code, Data Matrix and PDF417. However, recognising a barcode format does not establish suitability for every surface carrying it. Laser-etched or dot-peened component codes require assessment of contrast, material and marking quality. The High Density model’s close-range capability should not be treated as proof of direct-part-marking performance.

Can CODiScan be worn over gloves, and is the hand trigger included?

The adjustable left-hand and right-hand triggers can fit over a working glove, but scanner-only models require the trigger or lanyard to be purchased separately. The scanner body weighs 44 g; accessories add weight. Check fit and trigger access with the operator’s actual gloves. A lanyard uses the scanner’s multifunction key, while the hand trigger supports scanning during handling. Only the detached fabric is washable.

Does CODiScan need a mobile computer, and what does Aladdin do?

CODiScan captures barcodes and sends data to a paired host; the host runs the operational application. A compatible mobile computer can provide the screen and warehouse workflow. Datalogic’s Aladdin Android app supports pairing, configuration and firmware updates. Confirm how your application receives barcode data: successful Bluetooth pairing alone does not establish compatibility with a warehouse management system.

When is Gateway Connect needed, and does CODiScan have Wi-Fi?

Gateway Connect is an optional accessory for deployments using a fixed computer or the gateway’s network connection. It supports up to seven CODiScan scanners and provides USB connectivity to a computer. Wi-Fi belongs to the gateway; the wearable scanner communicates through Bluetooth. For a shared workstation, specify how the application should distinguish devices or operators and handle simultaneous scanning.

Does CODiScan’s Green Spot confirm that the correct item was picked?

Green Spot confirms a successful barcode read, rather than a match against the order. LEDs and audible feedback also indicate reads, with vibration feedback available as an option. The connected application must check the captured code against the expected item or location. During setup, test how operators receive acceptance, mismatch and connection-failure messages, especially where noise limits audible feedback.

Will CODiScan’s battery last through two working shifts?

Datalogic rates CODiScan for up to 16 hours at one scan every five seconds and up to 12,000 scans per charge, depending on settings and environmental conditions. Two-shift coverage therefore depends on your workload. Compare expected scan frequency, operating temperature and feedback settings with the rating, then validate runtime during a representative shift before deciding how many spare devices are needed.

Which CODiScan charging accessories should be included in an order?

Choose charging capacity according to how many scanners need charging at the same time. Options include a single-slot USB cap charger, modular two-slot chargers expandable to six slots, and a 12-slot station. Datalogic specifies approximately 2.15 hours with its charging station. Confirm the required power supply, regional cord and cables for each configuration, particularly when several shifts share the same equipment.

Is CODiScan suitable for cold storage, dusty areas or wet environments?

CODiScan is specified for operation from −20 to +50 °C and has IP54 protection against dust ingress and splashing water. Charging requires 0 to +40 °C, so cold-storage deployments need a suitable charging area. Assess condensation when moving between temperatures and battery performance in the cold. IP54 does not establish suitability for immersion or high-pressure washdown.

What information does Marveltech need to quote a CODiScan setup?

Provide barcode samples, label dimensions, minimum and maximum scanning distances, host device and application details, operator count, glove requirements, shift pattern and operating conditions. Request an itemised configuration covering scanners, hand triggers or lanyards, chargers, power supplies and any gateways. If deployment assistance is needed, discuss Marveltech’s integration and support services and agree the scope alongside availability, delivery timing and warranty terms.
