The AV500 captures barcode data from moving parcels, cartons, totes and baggage, or from items presented at a stationary reading point. Within MarvelTech’s range of fixed barcode scanners, it combines image-based decoding, object tracking and image saving for logistics and distribution applications.
It reads supported 1D, 2D, stacked and postal codes. Configuration should account for the smallest barcode feature, label quality, object height and the faces that need to be scanned.
The CMOS sensor captures 5 MP images at up to 32 frames per second. Region of Interest (ROI) windowing restricts acquisition to a selected image area and can increase frame rate, with a corresponding reduction in coverage.
Frame rate describes image acquisition, rather than parcels processed per second. Achievable conveyor speed depends on exposure time, barcode size, illumination, reading geometry and the number of usable images captured while each code passes through view.
Reader models have integrated red or white illumination with continuous, non-flashing operation. Dual aiming lasers assist alignment, while Datalogic’s Green Spot provides visible good-read feedback.
The AV500 has 16 mm, 25 mm and 35 mm C-mount lens options. Supported focus modes include fixed, adjustable, dual-zone and dynamic focus. These determine how focus is set or changed across the application’s reading distances.
The field of view is the area captured by the camera; depth of field is the distance range within which the required barcode remains readable. Select the lens and focus configuration together, using conveyor width, mounting distance, object-height range and barcode dimensions. A wider view is useful only if the smallest required code retains enough image detail for decoding.
PackTrack™ associates decoded barcodes with individual objects travelling through the reading zone. This supports closer item spacing, subject to the installation’s tracking configuration and validated operating conditions.
Примерна конфигурация: an overhead station handling cartons of different heights needs its optics checked at both the nearest and farthest label positions. If several cartons can occupy the reading zone together, assess object detection and conveyor tracking before reducing the gap between them. Labels on other faces may require additional readers.

The onboard e-GENIUS™ web interface provides browser-based configuration through a network connection to the reader. X-Press™ controls and integrated aiming lasers support local setup and alignment.
Ethernet and serial interfaces connect the reader to host systems, while EtherNet/IP supports communication with compatible PLCs. Protocol support still requires the application’s messages, triggers and data handling to be configured.
SyncNet coordinates multiple readers within a scanning installation. Network design should account for barcode output, reader synchronisation and image-transfer traffic, particularly where several cameras contribute to one object record.
The AV500 supports onboard image saving and external transfer through Gigabit Ethernet, including a dedicated high-speed image-saving connection. Available image formats range from full-definition images to compressed JPEG files.
Saved images can support investigation of unread labels and other scanning exceptions. Define which events should trigger image saving, how images will be associated with item records and how long external storage must retain them. WebSentinel™ PLUS compatibility provides an option for system performance monitoring; confirm the required software and deployment scope separately.
The closest alternative is the Datalogic AV900, which uses a 9 MP sensor compared with the AV500’s 5 MP sensor. Both have a published acquisition rate of up to 32 frames per second and support PackTrack, configurable focus and integrated red or white illumination.
Consider the AV900 when an optical assessment identifies a need for additional image resolution at the required coverage. Compare both readers using the same barcode samples, conveyor speed and reading distances; sensor resolution alone does not establish achievable throughput.
For a small, predictable reading area with consistent label positioning, a more compact fixed reader may be sufficient. The AV500’s size, power requirements and system configuration should be justified by the application.
The installation needs a suitable power supply, mounting arrangement and connection cables. Depending on the operating mode, it may also require connection hardware, object-detection sensors, conveyor-position signals or height measurement. Specify these alongside the reader so that the quotation covers the complete reading station.
Captured images can support optical character recognition (OCR), which extracts printed text, or video coding, where operators interpret images. These workflows require a defined processing solution; image saving alone does not establish that the necessary software, licences or operator tools are included.
MarvelTech supplies automatic-identification equipment and provides system maintenance and support. For an AV500 installation, request a quotation covering the reader configuration, mounting and connection hardware, any required software, and the agreed installation and support scope.
Include barcode samples and dimensions, conveyor speed and width, minimum object spacing, object-size range, label positions, mounting distance and required PLC or host interface. Add layout drawings or photographs, image-retention requirements and the installation location.

The AV500 suits parcel sorting, carton and tote identification, airport baggage-tag reading and operator-assisted overhead scanning. Within MarvelTech’s Спектър от стационарни индустриални скенери, consider it when variable label positions, changing object heights or image recording influence reader selection. In a dimensioning, weighing and scanning system, it provides barcode identification; separate equipment supplies dimensions and weight.
Yes. Supported formats include GS1-128, Code 128, Data Matrix, QR Code, PDF417 and MaxiCode, alongside other supported stacked and postal codes. However, support for a barcode format does not establish readability through reflective wrapping or across damaged printing. Provide representative labels, including the poorest acceptable examples, for evaluation at the intended speed and reading distance.
The usable conveyor speed depends on the application; the published acquisition rate of up to 32 frames per second is not a parcel-throughput rating. Barcode dimensions, exposure time, lighting and the distance travelled through the reading area determine the available reading opportunities. Assess performance at maximum line speed with the smallest required codes and least favourable label positions.
Select the 16 mm, 25 mm or 35 mm lens against conveyor width, mounting distance, object-height variation and the smallest barcode feature. Field of view describes image coverage; depth of field describes the usable distance range. The AV500 offers fixed, adjustable, dual-zone and dynamic focus configurations. Ask which configuration and any associated focus-control accessories suit the nearest and farthest label positions.
Обмислете Datalogic AV900 barcode reader when the required coverage needs more image detail than the AV500’s 5 MP sensor can provide. The AV900 uses a 9 MP sensor, while both specify acquisition at up to 32 frames per second. Compare usable coverage at the same barcode size and working distances; additional megapixels alone do not establish higher conveyor throughput.
PackTrack associates decoded barcodes with individual moving objects, helping distinguish parcels that occupy the reading zone together. The practical requirement is correct barcode-to-parcel assignment, alongside successful decoding. Minimum spacing depends on the installed tracking arrangement and object flow. Include conveyor-position signals, object detection and representative parcel shapes in the assessment before specifying a reduced operating gap.
One reader covers the surfaces visible from its mounting position. Labels facing away from the camera or concealed beneath a parcel require additional reading positions. AV500 supports SyncNet for coordinated reader networking, but networking does not determine optical coverage. Define the required parcel faces first, then assess camera positions, overlapping views and how repeated reads will be handled.
Configuration uses the onboard e-GENIUS browser interface through a network connection. The AV500 provides Ethernet TCP/IP and serial interfaces, with EtherNet/IP connectivity for compatible PLCs. Specify the PLC model, required protocol, trigger source and expected data format. Integration also needs defined handling for unread labels, multiple decoded codes and the deadline for sending a result to the sorting control.
Image saving is a reader capability; it does not establish that a complete OCR or monitoring solution is included. The AV500 can store images onboard and transfer them through Gigabit Ethernet, and it is compatible with WebSentinel PLUS. Specify separately any optical character recognition, operator image-review workflow, monitoring licences and external storage. Define which events trigger image saving and how images connect to parcel records.
The station needs a suitable 24 V DC power supply, connection cables and a secure mounting arrangement. Depending on the selected operating mode, it may also need connection boxes, object-detection sensors, conveyor-position signals or distance-measurement equipment. Confirm what the chosen reader part number includes, and request an itemised quotation covering the complete station, including network hardware and any additional readers.
The specified operating range is 0 to 50 °C, with IP65 protection and non-condensing humidity conditions. Sub-zero operation therefore falls outside the published temperature range. IP65 alone does not establish suitability for immersion, high-pressure washing or particular cleaning chemicals. Assess ambient temperature, condensation, cleaning procedures and cooling clearance at the proposed mounting location before selecting the installation arrangement.
Send barcode samples and dimensions, conveyor speed and width, minimum parcel spacing, object-size range, label positions and available mounting distances. Include layout photographs or drawings, the PLC or host interface, required reading performance and image-retention needs. Request an itemised equipment and software proposal, with commissioning responsibilities and any услуги по поддръжка defined. State the installation location and target commissioning date.
