Choose the T6000e Print Width and Resolution

The T6000e series is designed for workloads of up to 10,000 labels per day. Select the configuration around your widest printed layout, smallest text and barcode detail, and required output during peak periods.

Resolution is measured in dots per inch (dpi). Higher resolution supports finer detail, but reduces the maximum printing speed; the 600 dpi model does not print at the series maximum of 14 inches per second.

T6000e standard printer configurations
Model Format Resolution Maximum print width Maximum print speed
T6204e 4-inch 203 dpi 104 mm 14 ips / 356 mm/s
T6304e 4-inch 300 dpi 104 mm 12 ips / 305 mm/s
T6604e 4-inch 600 dpi 104 mm 6 ips / 152 mm/s
T6206e 6-inch 203 dpi 166 mm 12 ips / 305 mm/s
T6306e 6-inch 300 dpi 166 mm 10 ips / 254 mm/s

These are maximum printing speeds. Actual throughput depends on label length, print settings, material and ribbon, job processing, and any encoding, verification or media-handling operations. The daily-volume figure is a manufacturer workload guideline rather than a measured output for every configuration.

Illustrative configuration: a 100 mm-wide shipping layout may suit a 4-inch model, while a layout requiring 150 mm of printed width needs a 6-inch model. Small component labels may favour 600 dpi, provided the lower printing speed meets production demand.

Barcode Labels and Material Selection

Supported barcode formats include Code 128, GS1-128, EAN/UPC, Data Matrix, QR Code and PDF417. Applications range from carton and pallet identification to manufacturing work-in-progress, retail stock and medical supply labels. Barcode dimensions, clear space around the code and the finished label should be checked against the receiving system’s requirements.

Direct thermal printing uses heat-sensitive media without a ribbon. Thermal transfer printing uses a ribbon to print onto compatible paper or synthetic materials. As with other thermal label printers, resistance to abrasion, chemicals and storage conditions depends on the selected label-and-ribbon combination.

Optional RFID Printing and Encoding

RFID configurations are available in both print widths and support UHF EPC Gen2 / ISO 18000-63 labels and tags. They can print and encode standard RFID labels for cartons or pallets and selected on-metal tags for assets such as IT equipment. Supported on-metal constructions can be up to 1.2 mm thick, subject to validation of the specific tag and printer configuration.

RFID calibration establishes the encoding position and radio power for the loaded media. Factory RFID configurations validate encoding and can overstrike, meaning visibly mark as unusable, and reprint failed tags while recording encoding success and failure counts.

Specify the tag reference, inlay position, mounting surface and country of operation before ordering. A successful encode confirms that data was written to the tag; read performance after attachment also depends on the tag, asset and reader installation.

Connectivity and Existing Print Systems

Ethernet, serial RS-232 and USB host/device connections are standard. Wi-Fi, GPIO and parallel interfaces are optional. GPIO provides input and output signals for coordinating the printer with other equipment; the required signal behaviour and interface kit must match the application.

Printronix System Architecture includes printer-language emulations, including ZGL for Zebra ZPL applications and DGL for Datamax DPL applications. These can help retain existing label formats, but migration should include testing fonts, barcode sizing, positioning and any RFID commands. Connection to an ERP, warehouse management or manufacturing system depends on its print output, driver and software configuration.

PrintNet Enterprise provides remote configuration, status monitoring, firmware distribution and alerts. SOTI Connect is also supported and requires a licence. A colour LCD with buttons provides local access to printer settings and operating status.

Media Capacity, Accessories and Installation

The 4-inch models accept media up to 114.3 mm wide; the 6-inch models accept up to 172.7 mm. These are media widths, including the backing, and are wider than the printable areas. The series accommodates label rolls up to approximately 203 mm in diameter and thermal transfer ribbons up to 450 m long.

Roll-fed and fanfold labels, tags, tickets and compatible film media are supported, with gap and black-mark sensing. Match the ribbon formulation to the label material and application. RFID configurations require coated-side-out ribbons.

Standard handling includes continuous printing and tear-off modes. Cutter, peel-and-present and rewind options depend on the model and configuration. Confirm combinations involving RFID antennas or barcode verification before ordering; accessories can change supported media, operating speed and installation space.

The metal-framed printer operates from -5°C to +40°C. Approximate base dimensions, stated as width × height × depth, are 277 × 312 × 516 mm for the 4-inch model and 358 × 315 × 516 mm for the 6-inch model. Base weights are approximately 14.5 kg and 17.4 kg respectively.

The published power requirement is 90–240 V AC at 48–62 Hz. Allow additional space for opening the media door, ventilation, cables and fitted accessories. Wet, condensing or washdown locations need a separate assessment of printer protection and media suitability.

Optional Inline Barcode Verification

Printing a barcode and verifying its quality are separate functions. The optional ODV-2D system on supported 4-inch T6000e configurations checks printed 1D and 2D barcodes, records results and can mark failed labels and print replacements. RFID encoding validation does not assess the quality of the printed barcode.

The manufacturer’s published ODV-2D minimum barcode element width is 10 mil, or 0.254 mm. A small barcode that can be printed at 600 dpi may therefore fall outside the verifier’s supported dimensions. Check barcode size, media, operating speed and the required cutter arrangement when specifying verification.

T6000e or T4000?

The Printronix T4000 industrial label printer is a compact alternative for 4-inch applications using 203 or 300 dpi, with a manufacturer daily-volume guideline of up to 5,000 labels. The T6000e offers a higher guideline of up to 10,000 labels, a 6-inch format and a 600 dpi option on 4-inch models.

Choose between them using the same label design, material and peak workload. The T6000e is more relevant when wider printing, finer detail or the higher workload capability is required; a compact T4000 may be sufficient for a smaller workstation and lower daily demand.

T6000e Compatibility Questions

Can a standard T6000e be upgraded to RFID later?

The manufacturer documents an upgrade for standard 4-inch printers using an internal antenna, with limitations on backfeed and overstrike. This does not provide every capability of a factory RFID configuration. If on-metal tags or specific failed-tag handling are required, confirm the complete configuration before purchase.

Does it encode HF or NFC tags?

No. The supported RFID technology is UHF EPC Gen2 / ISO 18000-63. Applications requiring HF or NFC encoding need a different solution.

Can T6000 firmware be used on the T6000e?

No. The T6000 and T6000e use different firmware builds, despite sharing a code base. Use firmware intended for the exact printer model, and test existing T6000 label applications separately when migrating.

Printronix T6000e FAQs

When should I choose the Printronix T6000e instead of the T4000?

Choose the T6000e for manufacturing, shipping or warehouse labelling that requires wider printing, finer detail or a higher daily workload. Printronix positions it for up to 10,000 labels per day, compared with 5,000 for the compact Printronix T4000 industrial label printer. These are workload guidelines; compare both printers using your actual label format, peak demand and handling requirements.

Do I need a 4-inch or 6-inch T6000e?

Select the width around the complete printed layout, including barcode clear space. The 4-inch models provide a maximum print width of 104 mm; the 6-inch models provide 166 mm. Media allowances are wider, at 114.3 mm and 172.7 mm respectively, because they include the backing liner. Both formats offer 203 or 300 dpi; 600 dpi is available only on 4-inch models.

How does T6000e print resolution affect detail and speed?

Higher resolution supports smaller text and finer barcode elements, but lowers maximum print speed. Standard 4-inch models reach 14 inches per second at 203 dpi, 12 at 300 dpi and 6 at 600 dpi. The 6-inch models reach 12 at 203 dpi and 10 at 300 dpi. Select resolution from the smallest required detail, then assess throughput with the intended media, encoding, verification and handling settings.

Which T6000e printing method suits long-life or chemical-exposed labels?

Thermal transfer is the method to assess for durable identification, using a ribbon matched to the label material and expected exposure. Direct thermal uses heat-sensitive media without a ribbon and can suit short-life dispatch labels. Chemical, abrasion and heat resistance depend on the consumables, so test the finished label under its intended conditions. RFID configurations require coated-side-out ribbons.

Can the T6000e print and encode RFID tags for metal assets?

Yes, suitably configured T6000e RFID models support selected on-metal tags and standard UHF EPC Gen2 / ISO 18000-63 labels. HF and NFC tags require different equipment. Specify the tag reference, mounting surface and operating country before selection. Successful encoding checks the data written to the tag; subsequent reading depends on tag placement, the asset and the readers used in your RFID tracking system.

Can I add RFID to a standard T6000e later?

The manufacturer documents an upgrade for standard 4-inch T6000e printers using an internal antenna, with limited backfeed and overstrike, the process of visibly marking failed tags. This upgrade does not reproduce every factory RFID capability. If you need on-metal tags or specific failed-tag handling, establish the required configuration before purchasing the base printer.

Does T6000e RFID validation also check printed barcode quality?

No. RFID validation checks encoding; optional ODV-2D on supported 4-inch configurations checks printed 1D and 2D barcodes and can mark rejected labels and print replacements. Printronix specifies a minimum barcode element width of 10 mil, or 0.254 mm, for ODV-2D. A barcode printable at 600 dpi may therefore be too small for verification. Confirm the barcode type, dimensions and required acceptance criteria.

Can the T6000e replace a Zebra or Datamax printer in an existing system?

It can be a replacement candidate through built-in printer-language emulations, including ZGL for Zebra and DGL for Datamax workflows. Test existing label files, fonts, positioning and RFID commands before migration. Ethernet, USB host/device and RS-232 are standard; Wi-Fi, GPIO and parallel interfaces are optional. Compatibility with an ERP or warehouse system also depends on its driver or printer-command output.

What software is needed to design labels and manage T6000e printers?

Label creation and printer management serve different purposes. Your existing application may generate compatible print jobs, while label design and printing software provides tools for creating templates and connecting data. PrintNet Enterprise supports remote printer administration; SOTI Connect requires a licence. Confirm driver support, RFID encoding functions and any integration licences for the selected software edition.

Which T6000e media-handling accessories should I specify?

Specify accessories according to how operators use the output: tear-off for manual batch separation, peel-and-present for individual application, cutting for supported media separation, or rewind for collecting output. These options depend on the printer configuration and label stock. ODV-2D requires a compatible cutter design, so an existing cutter should not be assumed suitable. Include label length, thickness and RFID construction when checking combinations.

Can the T6000e operate in cold or damp industrial areas?

The published operating range is -5°C to +40°C, with 10–90% relative humidity under non-condensing conditions. Label and ribbon requirements may narrow that range. A cold location within the temperature specification still needs assessment for condensation and media performance. For wet or washdown areas, assess protective housing separately and allow space for ventilation, media loading and fitted accessories.

What should I provide when requesting a T6000e quotation?

Send label dimensions, sample artwork, material, daily volume and peak output requirements, plus your existing printer, software, connection and installation location. Identify RFID or barcode-verification needs and the required handling mode. For RFID, include the tag reference and mounting surface; for verification, provide barcode dimensions and acceptance criteria. Request an itemised quotation covering hardware, accessories, consumables, software licences and any installation or support work.
