The TSC MX241P Series is a 4-inch industrial label printer range for high-volume barcode printing, manufacturing traceability, shipping and pharmaceutical labelling. Choose the MX241P, MX341P or MX641P for 203, 300 or 600 dpi output, with direct thermal and thermal transfer printing across the range.
The MX241P Series combines a die-cast print mechanism with large consumable capacity for production and dispatch stations that print throughout the working day. It accepts 8-inch label rolls and ribbons up to 600 m long, reducing the frequency of reloads during extended batches.
Within MarvelTech’s range of label printers, this family suits operations where printing speed, small-label detail or frequent consumable changes influence the choice of equipment.
Resolution, measured in dots per inch (dpi), determines how finely the printer can reproduce text, barcode elements and graphics. Select it against the actual label design and required output rate.
| Model | Resolution | Maximum print speed | Selection guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| MX241P | 203 dpi | 457 mm/s (18 ips) | Shipping, carton and warehouse labels where throughput is the priority. |
| MX341P | 300 dpi | 356 mm/s (14 ips) | Product labels with smaller text and more detailed layouts. |
| MX641P | 600 dpi | 152 mm/s (6 ips) | Small component labels, compact 2D codes and fine graphics. |
All three models have a maximum print width of 104 mm. These are rated maximum speeds; achievable print quality and throughput depend on the label material, ribbon, artwork, printer settings and dispensing method.
Supported barcode formats include Code 128, EAN, UPC, GS1 DataBar, Data Matrix, QR Code, PDF417 and Aztec. A 2D barcode does not automatically require 600 dpi: the code’s physical size, encoded data and reading requirements determine the appropriate resolution.
For a 100 × 150 mm shipping label, the MX241P is a starting point when the layout remains readable at 203 dpi. A small electronics label containing fine text and a compact Data Matrix code may justify the MX641P. In either case, test the actual artwork on the intended media and ribbon at the required production speed before selecting the configuration.
Direct thermal printing uses heat-sensitive media without a ribbon and suits many short-life shipping and receiving labels. Thermal transfer printing uses a ribbon; select the label material and ribbon together when resistance to handling, abrasion or chemicals matters.
The printer accepts media 20–114 mm wide and 0.076–0.305 mm thick. Supported formats include die-cut labels, continuous stock, tags, fan-fold media and labels identified by gaps, notches or black marks. The 114 mm media limit includes the backing material; the printable area remains limited to 104 mm.
Label rolls can be up to 203.2 mm in outside diameter on a 76.2 mm core. Ribbon capacity is up to 600 m, with widths of 25.4–114.3 mm, a 25.4 mm core and a maximum outside diameter of 90 mm. Both inside- and outside-coated ribbons are supported.
Adjustable gap sensing and selectable top or bottom black-mark sensing accommodate different label constructions. TSC specifies a minimum label length of 3 mm in tear-off mode. This limit does not establish suitability for peeling or cutting the same label: confirm the accessory limits and test short labels with their actual backing, gap and adhesive.
Standard connections include USB 2.0, RS-232, 10/100 Mbps Ethernet and two front USB Host ports for supported scanners or keyboards. Peripheral input requires a compatible printer application or configured workflow.
Optional connectivity includes an 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2 combination module, factory-fitted Bluetooth 5.0 MFi, and a GPIO/parallel interface expansion. GPIO provides input and output signals for coordinating external equipment; electrical connections and control behaviour must be checked for the installation.
Media-handling options include a peel-off module, cutters and a factory-installed internal full rewinder. Specify whether labels should remain on their backing, be presented individually, be cut or be rewound. Accessory selection depends on the media and required output rate.
TSC Sense Care detects faulty printhead heating elements during printing, supporting maintenance decisions when defects could affect label output. It monitors printhead condition; it does not grade printed barcodes or check that the encoded information is correct.
TSC Console supports printer configuration and management. SOTI Connect provides an additional fleet-management option and requires a licence, with network access through Ethernet or the optional Wi-Fi module. Confirm firmware and management-software requirements for the intended deployment.
Printing from enterprise resource planning (ERP), warehouse management (WMS) or production software requires a defined route from business data to the printer. The connection may use a compatible driver, printer commands or a configured labelling application.
Select label design software against the required data sources, template controls and printing workflow. Ethernet connectivity alone does not provide an ERP or WMS integration.
The printer measures 300 × 393 × 510 mm (W × H × D) and weighs 18 kg. Allow additional space to open the cover, load consumables and access connections. Power input is 100–240 V AC, 50–60 Hz.
The specified operating range is 0–40°C and 25–85% relative humidity, non-condensing. Check the proposed location against these limits, particularly near cold-storage areas or processes that produce moisture.
The TSC MH241 Series is a close alternative for 4-inch industrial printing. At 203 dpi, the MH241 reaches 356 mm/s versus 457 mm/s for the MX241P; at 300 dpi, the MH341 reaches 305 mm/s versus 356 mm/s for the MX341P. Both 600 dpi models are rated at 152 mm/s, and both families provide a 104 mm maximum print width.
Compare these manufacturer-rated speeds using the same label, ribbon and output mode. If the MH family meets the required throughput, assess its configuration alongside the MX rather than choosing on maximum speed alone. A printed layout wider than 104 mm requires a wider printer.
The TSPL-EZD printer language supports EPL, ZPL, ZPL II and DPL emulation. Existing files still need testing for fonts, graphics, barcode positioning and commands. Changing resolution also requires checking the label layout and driver settings before production use.
TSC lists a two-year limited printer warranty. Printhead cover is 12 months or 25 km of printing, whichever comes first; platen cover is 12 months or 50 km, whichever comes first. Confirm the applicable order terms and service arrangements with MarvelTech.
MarvelTech supplies TSC printing equipment and offers equipment maintenance, adjustments and support contracts. Discuss model selection, consumables and integration requirements, with installation and ongoing support scoped for the proposed site.
The quote depends on resolution, quantity, connectivity, media-handling accessories, software licences and any agreed installation or support work. Request confirmation of availability, lead time and service coverage for your location.
Send MarvelTech a sample label or artwork, label dimensions and material, barcode types, daily volume and peak output requirement. Include your business system or label software, connection method, cutter or rewinder needs, delivery location and current printer model to request a suitable MX241P, MX341P or MX641P configuration.
Consider the MX241P Series for manufacturing, shipping and product identification when printing capacity limits your workflow. Compared with the TSC MH241 Series industrial printers, it offers higher maximum speeds at 203 and 300 dpi; both families reach 152 mm/s at 600 dpi. Compare representative print jobs and the required finishing accessories to establish whether the MX provides a useful throughput advantage.
The MX241P prints at 203 dpi and up to 457 mm/s, the MX341P at 300 dpi and up to 356 mm/s, and the MX641P at 600 dpi and up to 152 mm/s. Higher resolution supports finer text and barcode detail but reduces maximum speed. Choose against the smallest printed elements: QR Code or Data Matrix printing alone does not establish a need for 600 dpi.
The rated speed describes media movement during printing, rather than complete production throughput. Label length, gaps, job processing, ribbon and material selection, and cutting or peeling can affect the number of usable labels produced per minute. Assess a representative batch with its actual variable data and finishing mode, checking barcode readability at the speed your operation requires.
All three models support both methods. Direct thermal uses heat-sensitive labels without a ribbon and suits many short-life shipping or receiving applications. Thermal transfer uses a ribbon and is a starting point for labels requiring longer service life or resistance to handling. For abrasion, cleaning chemicals or temperature exposure, specify the conditions and evaluate the label material, adhesive and ribbon together.
The series accepts media 20–114 mm wide, including the backing liner, but the maximum printed width is 104 mm. TSC specifies a minimum label length of 3 mm in tear-off mode. That minimum does not establish suitability for peeling or cutting. For very short labels, check the gap or black-mark position, required margins and feeding stability using the intended stock.
Yes, with the appropriate optional equipment. A peel-off module presents individual labels with their backing removed, a cutter separates suitable media, and an internal full rewinder collects printed labels on a roll. TSC lists the full rewinder as a factory option, so specify it before ordering. Cutter and peeler selection should account for media construction, label length and the required dispensing rate.
Ethernet, USB 2.0, RS-232 and two front USB Host ports are standard connections. Wi-Fi with Bluetooth and the GPIO expansion are optional. GPIO, or general-purpose input/output, exchanges control signals with external equipment; it requires compatible wiring and control logic. If you plan to connect a scanner or keyboard through USB Host, specify the intended input workflow as well as the peripheral.
Yes, through a compatible printing workflow. TSPL-EZD supports EPL, ZPL, ZPL II and DPL emulation, but existing files need testing for fonts, graphics, barcode dimensions and command behaviour. ERP or warehouse-system printing also requires configured data transfer and templates. Select label design and printing software against those requirements, checking driver support and licence entitlements separately.
TSC Console supports printer configuration and management, while SOTI Connect provides an additional management option requiring a separate licence. Network access can use standard Ethernet or optional Wi-Fi. Before deployment, define the required status monitoring, configuration changes and firmware-management process, then confirm compatibility with the selected management software and printer firmware.
No. TSC Sense Care detects faulty printhead heating elements, helping identify a potential cause of missing print. This diagnostic function does not grade the finished barcode or confirm its encoded data. Where customers require a defined barcode quality grade, specify a separate verification process and acceptance criteria alongside the printer configuration.
The specified operating range is 0–40°C and 25–85% relative humidity, non-condensing. Below-zero rooms and locations where condensation forms fall outside those conditions. Assess the printer’s actual location, including temperature changes during cleaning or door opening. Installation also requires a stable surface for the 18 kg printer and clearance around its 300 × 393 × 510 mm body for loading and servicing.
Send representative artwork, label and liner dimensions, material details, daily volume and peak output requirements. Include the smallest text or barcode dimensions, existing printer model, software, connection method and whether labels must be peeled, cut or rewound. State the installation location and any need for equipment maintenance and support, so the quotation can identify hardware, consumables, software licences and service scope.
