T4000 Compact Industrial Label Printer

The T4000 combines a metal enclosure and bi-fold media door with capacity for an 8-inch label roll and a 450 m ribbon. Its 3.5-inch colour LCD and nine-key control panel provide access to printer settings and media calibration at packing benches, production workstations and departmental printing points.

The manufacturer positions the series for workloads of up to 5,000 labels per day. Actual output depends on label length, print settings, job processing, consumable changes and any RFID or media-handling operations.

T4204 and T4304 Specifications

Choose the T4204 with 203 dpi resolution for standard shipping and carton labels, or consider the 300 dpi T4304 for smaller text and finer barcode detail. Resolution is measured in dots per inch; the required setting depends on the artwork and the size of the barcode’s narrowest elements.

Speed figures are the current published maximums, expressed in inches per second. Media, ribbon, barcode detail and finishing mode affect the usable speed. The 120 mm media allowance does not increase the 104 mm printable width; leave space around the printer for cabling and media access.

Допълнително отпечатване и кодиране UHF RFID

The RFID configuration prints visible information and writes data to a compatible label’s RFID chip. It supports RAIN UHF RFID using GS1 EPC Gen2 v2 / ISO 18000-63, including standard smart labels and selected on-metal tags designed for attachment to metal surfaces. HF and NFC tags are outside its supported RFID technology.

Published RFID limits include a minimum label/tag pitch of 15.9 mm and selected on-metal tags up to 1.2 mm thick. Pitch is the distance between corresponding points on successive tags. Tag construction, chip position and feed characteristics still require validation; thickness alone does not establish compatibility.

In Системи RFID, the printer prepares the tags, while readers, antennas and application software perform subsequent identification and tracking. Specify the tag model, encoding format and installation country when requesting an RFID configuration.

Choose the Print Method and Media Handling

Direct thermal printing uses heat-sensitive labels without a ribbon and suits short-life shipping or dispatch labels. Thermal transfer printing uses a ribbon and is a candidate for longer-life product or asset labels; durability depends on matching the label material and ribbon to handling, heat, chemicals and storage conditions.

  • Continuous and tear-off: standard handling modes for batch output or manual label removal.
  • Peel/rewind option: presents paper labels for application and rewinds the backing liner from an 8-inch roll, at up to 6 ips.
  • Cutter option: separates supported media within the specified thickness range. It does not support on-metal RFID labels or tags.

Connectivity and Existing Label Systems

Ethernet 10/100Base-T, USB device, USB host and RS-232 serial interfaces are standard. Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac and Bluetooth are optional; specify the required wireless connection and network security requirements when ordering.

Printronix System Architecture supports native PGL and printer-language emulations, including ZGL for Zebra, DGL for Datamax and STGL for SATO workflows. Emulation allows the printer to interpret another printer’s commands, but existing label files, fonts, positioning and barcode output should be tested before migration.

Printing from an ERP or warehouse management system depends on its driver, label software or supported command output. PrintNet Enterprise provides remote printer management and status monitoring; SOTI Connect is also supported with a separate licence.

Illustrative Packing-Bench Configuration

For a workstation producing 4 × 6-inch shipping labels, a T4204 with Ethernet, direct thermal media and standard tear-off handling is a configuration to assess. Calibrate the gap or mark sensor to the actual label stock, then print and scan a sample at the intended speed before releasing a batch. A matching ribbon and thermal transfer stock would be needed if the application instead requires longer-lasting identification.

When to Consider the T6000e

The T4000 suits applications within its 104 mm print width, 203 or 300 dpi resolution and stated daily workload. The Printronix T6000e is the next model to assess for higher output or finer printing: its 4-inch version is rated for up to 10,000 labels per day and offers a 600 dpi configuration at up to 6 ips.

At equivalent resolutions, the 4-inch T6000e reaches up to 14 ips at 203 dpi and 12 ips at 300 dpi, compared with 12 ips and 10 ips respectively for the T4000. Both have a 104 mm maximum print width. These are manufacturer maximums; compare actual throughput using the same label, ribbon and handling requirements.

T4000 Configuration Questions

Can a non-RFID T4000 be upgraded later?

RFID upgrade kits are available for the standard model. Provide the printer’s exact configuration and serial number so the appropriate kit and installation requirements can be checked before ordering.

Does RFID encoding validation check the printed barcode?

RFID validation checks the encoding process and can trigger overstriking and reprinting of tags that fail to encode. It does not establish the quality of the visible barcode. If barcode grading is required, include a separate verification requirement in the project specification.

Printronix T4000 FAQs

Is the Printronix T4000 suitable for shipping and manufacturing labels?

The T4000 suits shipping, carton, product and inventory labelling where a compact industrial printer is required. Printronix positions it for workloads of up to 5,000 labels per day. Assess peak demand as well as daily totals: label length, job processing, consumable changes and RFID encoding affect how quickly a batch can be completed.

What is the difference between the T4204 and T4304?

The T4204 prints at 203 dpi with a published maximum speed of 12 inches per second; the T4304 provides 300 dpi at up to 10 inches per second. Consider 203 dpi for standard shipping labels and 300 dpi for smaller text or finer barcode elements. Choose using actual artwork and barcode readability requirements, since higher resolution alone does not establish print quality.

What label sizes and roll capacities does the T4000 support?

The T4000 accepts media from 25.4 to 120 mm wide, including the backing liner, but its maximum printable width is 104 mm. It accommodates label rolls up to 8 inches in outside diameter. Check the complete roll specification and artwork together: a label can fit through the printer while containing content outside the printable area.

Should I use direct thermal or thermal transfer printing?

Both methods are supported. Direct thermal uses heat-sensitive labels without a ribbon and is a practical choice for short-life shipping labels. Thermal transfer uses a ribbon and is generally more suitable for longer-lasting product or asset identification. Select the label material, adhesive and ribbon for the required lifespan and exposure to abrasion, heat or chemicals; the printing method alone does not determine durability.

Does every T4000 include RFID, and can it be added later?

RFID is optional, and upgrade kits are available for standard T4000 printers; confirm the appropriate kit and installation requirements for the existing unit. The RFID version prints and encodes compatible UHF Gen2 labels and tags, including RAIN RFID applications. It does not encode HF or NFC tags. Subsequent tracking requires readers and application software within an RFID identification system.

Can the T4000 print and encode on-metal RFID tags?

Yes, the RFID configuration supports selected on-metal tags up to 1.2 mm thick. These tags are designed for attachment to metal assets, but thickness alone does not establish printer compatibility. Provide the tag manufacturer, part number, roll construction and samples so feeding, printing and encoding can be assessed. Test reading performance after attachment to the intended asset as well.

Does RFID encoding validation also check the printed barcode?

No. RFID validation checks the encoding operation, while barcode verification assesses the visible printed symbol. The T4000 can overstrike and reprint RFID labels that fail to encode, but that process does not grade barcode print quality. If customers require documented barcode grades, specify a separate verification process and acceptance criteria alongside the RFID requirements.

Which T4000 media-handling option should I choose?

Standard continuous and tear-off modes suit batch printing and manual label removal. The optional peel/rewind unit presents paper labels for application and collects the backing liner, with a maximum speed of 6 inches per second. Choose the optional cutter when supported media must be separated automatically. The cutter does not support on-metal RFID labels or tags, so specify the exact stock before selecting accessories.

Can the T4000 work with our existing connections and label software?

Ethernet, USB host/device and RS-232 serial interfaces are standard; Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are optional. Printer-language emulations support migration from systems using brands such as Zebra, Datamax and SATO. Test existing templates, fonts, barcode positioning and any RFID commands before replacement. When selecting софтуер за дизайн и печат на етикети, check the driver, operating system, data connections and licence requirements for the intended workflow.

What operating conditions and installation space does the T4000 need?

The specified operating range is 0–40°C with 25–85% relative humidity, non-condensing. The printer measures 264 × 276 × 455 mm, expressed as width × height × depth. Allow additional access for opening the media door, replacing rolls and connecting cables. Check label and ribbon storage conditions separately, and assess any location exposed to condensation, washdown or substantial airborne contamination.

When should I consider the Printronix T6000e instead of the T4000?

Consider the T6000e when output requirements exceed the T4000’s stated workload or the artwork needs finer printing. The 4-inch T6000e is positioned for up to 10,000 labels per day and offers a 600 dpi configuration, whereas the T4000 offers 203 or 300 dpi. Both have a 104 mm maximum print width, so this change does not provide a wider printable area.

What information should I provide for a T4000 quotation?

Send label dimensions, material, sample artwork, daily volume and peak batch requirements through the enquiry form. Include your printing software, required connection, handling mode, installation country and any RFID tag part number. State whether the quotation should include consumables, software, installation or equipment maintenance and support. Request configuration-specific availability, lead time, warranty terms and support coverage for your location.
